The excitement of traveling at night!!! :)

Well, we finally made it to Georgia! :) I don't know if some of you remember our drive from the summer when we got pulled over twice getting here. Well, this time we only got pulled over once...so not too bad! :) Last time we got pulled over in LA for driving in the left hand lane when we weren't supposed to and then again in Mississippi for not going the speed limit because the speed limit changes so much Wes missed a sign and so the cop thought we were drinking since we weren't going the speed limit. This time we were about 20 minutes from my parents house and a cop turns around to follow us for a little bit and Wes knew he was about to get pulled over. Sure enough the cop turned on his lights and pulled us over. He came to my window and said that the reason he was pulling us over was because he thought my tint was too dark. I was thinking "You have seriously got to be kidding me". I have had my car for 4 years and got it tinted in GA and have NEVER had a problem before. Anyways...he wanted to test it to see if it was too dark and of course...it was fine. He went on to ask us if we knew where a certain town was in TX and we didn't. He said that a lot of drugs come from that town but we didn't know where it was. He really just wanted to chit chat at 4:30 in the morning so he thought he would think make up something to get us for. He wrote us a warning and said have a Merry Christmas! Oh the joys of traveling at night!!!

I've Been Tagged!

I've been tagged! This is a picture of me and Wes at Lake Grapvine a few summers ago. We walked some of the trails around the lake.

SNOW!!!!

We woke up to snow this morning! It has been an extremely cold day....the temperature was in the 30s and the wind chill in the 20s...but it has been beautiful! Here are a few pictures of the snow in College Station, TX!

Great Monday

It's a great Monday when you get to dress comfortably! Two other teachers that I work with and myself decided to wear our outfits that we all have the same...just different colors. We had to take a picture. We wish everyday (or maybe just Mondays) was a dress down day!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!!

I hope everyone has had a great day! Boy was it an exciting day at school. Not only was it Halloween...but it was also CRAZY HAIR DAY!!! I didn't do anything crazy with my hair because I didn't want it all crazy when we go out with friends tonight. BUT...the kids had some pretty crazy hairdos!

The picture above is the set-up that my wonderful parents did for our class party!!! The kids LOVED it! They got to paint their own pumpkin and make their own mix of goodies. The kids played "Hot Potato" with a pumpkin and then they worked with groups to wrap one of their group members like a mummy. It was fun for all!

Tonight Wes and I are going to play Laser Tag and Putt Putt with two other couples from our Sunday School class. We are excited!

Field Trip

We went on a field trip today to Texas A&M for a tour. The field trip could have been much better. It's all according to who you get for a tour guide...you would think that tour guides should know there stuff...well...I could have done better than our tour guide and I didn't even go to Texas A&M. Anyways...a wonderful parent of mine made screens to come up on the "Jumbo-Tron" and the ribbons in Kyle Field for our school. The kids loved it!

I know I'm posting this early...but we're going to Dallas this weekend and I'm not sure I'll have the time to post it.

October 18th is a very special day in that it was one of the best days of my life. After a long, hard day of working with 16 5 year olds I went home to work on graduate work. I was deep into a writing a paper when my phone rang and this is what I heard

Wes - "Hey Leanna, I was wondering if you would come out to the waterfront tonight. It's so nice out here!"
Me - "Wes, I'm writing a paper and the mosquitoes are TERRIBLE...we didn't even have recess today because they were so bad. I know they are bad out there."
Wes - "No, they aren't bad...come on out."
Me - "Well, why didn't you come and get me?"
Wes - "I don't know...just come on."
Me - "Okay...well, where are you."
Wes - "I'm on the pier behind Lang's."
Me - "Okay...I'm on my way."

Now, I had only been gone a few minutes when my phone rings again.

Wes - "Where are you?"
Me - "I'm on my way...I'm at the intersection of HWY 40 and St. Mary's Rd"
Wes - "Okay...see you soon."

I get there and I get out of my car and the mosquitoes are SWARMING!!! I thought to myself...what was he thinking!!! I walk to the pier and I see Wes all dressed up (and here I am not looking the best) and he has his guitar. As soon as I saw him I instantly knew what was about to happen. He started playing the song from the "Wedding Singer" called "Grow Old With You"....it was SOOOOOO sweet! Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I had never been so happy in my life. We left shortly there after because we were being eaten alive. We immediately went to a teacher's house that I work with and interrupted dinner and then went home. Wes cooked spaghetti while I ran next door to another teacher that I worked with that lived behind me in my apt. complex. We started planning for our wedding immediately because we new Wes was leaving in Jan. - Apr. to go out to sea and we wanted to have the majority planned. Mind you...I was still teaching and still in my masters. I look back and I have NO idea how I did it all...but I survived. I couldn't do all that now!!!

I LOVE MY HUSBAND!!!

The Past Few Weeks...

I can't believe the 1st 6 weeks of school is over. The year is already flying by. I still feel like I'm spinning my wheels trying to get everything accomplished...but that's the life of a teacher.

My mom came a few weeks ago for a few days. It was nice to have her here. We took her to an Aggie game. She loved it. There are a few pictures below.

I am LOVING the fall weather. I'm still running (not as much as I did before school started though). I ran this evening and it felt wonderful outside. There was a nice breeze. As I was running I noticed so many people out and about enjoying the nice weather as well. Kids were all out at the soccer fields practicing...people out walking their dogs. It's so nice to see people out enjoying the weather.

Me and mama on the campus of Texas A&M

The parachuters landing at the game...it was amazing!!!!

Some fans and the band going out!

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the fall weather!!!!!

Hurricane Ike

We survived Hurricane Ike! It actually wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be because we were on the west side of the storm. We never lost electricity or satellite...which was great! The good thing about Texas is that there aren't that many big trees that could have snapped and fell on roads or powerlines. Texas is good for something! :)

Busy Busy Busy

Whew...it's that time of year when I just can't seem to get caught up! School has started...we're in our 3rd week. I have 22 in my class now. That's a good thing...now I won't get any new ones unless someone leaves my class. The beginning of the year is always so hard because the kids have to learn the rules and procedures. It really wears you out! Wes and I have celebrated birthdays in the last 2 weeks....another year older. I don't like saying that I'm older than 25 now! It's a little depressing...it will more depressing in 4 years! Wes' parents were here for the weekend between our birthdays....it was fun! (sorry I don't have any pictures of anything...my mind has been elsewhere other than taking pictures). I'm looking forward to the end of the month when my mom will come for a visit. I'm ready for fall weather...but now COLD weather. We've had a few cooler mornings lately and it's been so nice. I've been sick and I think it's because the weather is starting to change. I've never had allergy problems until I moved to TX....something out here just doesn't agree with my body! Wes has class on Tuesday nights so I have the evening to myself...it's nice...but I do miss him being home with me!

21 Kiddos

Well, we got our class roster today and I have 21 kiddos. That's a class full! I also found out that I'll have half of the GT students....that's exciting to me! :) Now that I have gotten my class roster I'm more excited about starting in a few days. We still have lots of meetings ahead for the week but I'm ready for Meet the Teacher on Friday so that I can meet all my kids!!!

Smartboard

Well, we finally got our Smartboards and they are SO cool!!! I still have A LOT to learn on them...I'm sure the kids will learn faster than me!
Here is a picture of a powerpoint that I'll have going during Meet the Teacher...sorry the picture is a little dark.

Just another shot of the smartboard!

I can't believe I start pre-planning on Friday. Jumpstart has went really well and I'm glad that I did it. It really got me prepared for the school year....and it was easy money! :) Tomorrow is the last day for Jumpstart!

Summer is winding down...

Well, this is my last free week. I start teaching Jumpstart next week. The good thing though is that it is only half a day...so I'll still have my afternoons. I will have 8 or 9 kiddos...so not too many. I spent last week getting my classroom all ready. It's pretty much finished...just a few finishing touches but can't do it until things are laminated.

We went to Dallas this weekend to spend some time with Wes' parents. It was a nice relaxing weekend. My mom and grandma are coming at the end of the week to stay for a few days. I'm glad that they are coming.

That's about all that's been going on for now.

Back in Texas!!!

WOW....well, we are back in Texas. It's amazing how quick the 2 weeks went by while in GA. Now it's back to reality. Here are a few pics of the last few days in GA.

Relaxing Week

Not a whole lot has been going on this week...just been relaxing with the family. Everyone has been working during the day so Wes and I have been laying around. Or should I say Wes has been trying to dominate on the Wii! :) My grandma's birthday is today...she is 83. I love my grandma so much and will be going to see her in a little bit! We are preparing for a family reunion that is tomorrow. Wes has never been to one of these so he's in for a treat! :) Then we have a wedding tomorrow night. Then we just have Sunday and we leave EARLY Monday morning. I've had a great time home....I'm not really ready to leave yet...but we've been here almost 2 weeks. Boy...time flies! I guess the reason I'm not ready to get back is because I know I will have to start preparing for school since I'm teaching Jumpstart. It'll be good to get back into the swing of things though. I hope everyone has had a great week, as I have!!!!

What A Trip!!!!

Wow...we had a pretty eventful trip this time to Georgia! We left College Station about 6:00 p.m. and got to GA about 8:30 a.m. It was a LONG night but full of excitement! It all started when we got stuck on the 20 mile bridge in LA. Traffic came to a complete stop. We finally just turned the car off....along with all the semi's around us. Wes got out to see if he could see what was going on...couldn't see a thing. We were out in the pitch dark...nothing around but swamp land. We had NO idea how long we were going to be sitting there so we decided we would make it useful and take a nap. About the time we were good and comfy...traffic started moving very slowly. We had no idea how much further we had on the bridge and finally we saw blue lights. There had been a 4 car wreck on the bridge about a mile from the end of it. So about 45 min. later we were off the bridge. We were going good then! I told Wes I'm going to take a little nap...he said okay! About 25 min. later I was rudely awaken to Wes saying "I'm being pulled over"! I said "WHAT...were you speeding?" "No Leanna...I wasn't speeding!" Anyways...Wes got out and the little shrimp cop in LA basically told Wes that it is state law that the far inside lane on a 3 lane highway is strictly for passing and emergency vehicles...have a good night! WHAT!!!!!!! We couldn't believe he pulled us over for that! Anyways...Wes was TICKED!!! So, we kept going and so I said I was going to go back to sleep...okay Wes said! About 45 min. later I was rudely awaken AGAIN to Wes saying "I'm being pulled over again!!!" I said "WHAT....I can't believe it...were you speeding?" "NO LEANNA....I was NOT speeding!" So, we were waiting and next thing I knew the freaking cop knocked on my window and liked to have scard the living daylights out of me...I rolled down the window and the cop looked like he was hiding a laugh (probably because I jumped and screamed when he knocked on the window). Anyways he says..."Uh, you been drinking sir?" Wes said..."NO". He said "Well I saw that you slowed down significantly when you saw me." Wes said, "Well, the speed limit dropped to 60 from 70 so I slowed down" and the cop said, "Yeah, and it went back to 70 right after that but I'm just checking to make sure you're not drinking or about to fall asleep or anything...have a good night". We couldn't believe it! So, basically Wes got pulled over for not going back up to 70 when the speed limit changed. I told Wes...I'm not going back to sleep because I don't like to be woken up by you being pulled over!!!

So, we keep going...we're making pretty good time anyways....until we get about an hour from Tallahassee. Wes said he wasn't feeling to well and could I drive. Sure I said....so I take back over from there. We stopped at a rest area and then we hit the road. Wes said, "If I say pull over...PULL OVER! I said..."OKAY!". So we didn't have to pull over but he wanted me to stop in Tallahassee. Well, he got SICK at the gas station. We still had another hour to go. We get back on the road and he told me to stop and the next gas station. So, I did and he got SICK again!!!! Oh my was all I thought...will we EVER get there! FINALLY...we get to my sister's house and Wes goes straight to bed as I told him to do. I unload the car and go to grandma's house next door where she made me grits, eggs, and toast!!! IT WAS SOOO GOOD!!!! Wes didn't want ANYTHING and he made it well known to me that he didn't! After eating I went to sleep for about 4 hours....and I know I'll sleep GOOD tonight!

Out of all of our trips we've made during the night...we have NEVER had anything like this!!! I'm glad we made it safe and sound!

Off to the beach tomorrow for 4 days....YAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

Relay for Life

Well, Relay for Life is consuming me right now. Me and another teacher are captain and co-captain for our school. I volunteered with Carrie. Our school goal is $1500. We are doing a penny war to raise money and just in 4 days last week we raised $725. Carrie and I were SOOOO excited! We still have 2 more weeks of penny wars going on....we can't wait to see how much we raise!

We are down to about 42 days of school left! I can't believe it! The year has been great....I will miss some of my students after the year is over.

Well, I need to do a little work...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

This is my first time blogging....so we'll see how it goes! Today was the first day back to work after Spring Break. It was a busy day! We didn't do anything to exciting for St. Patrick's Day but at lease I dressed to the attire. I hope everyone remembered to wear their green and didn't get pinched!
